Notes on Aesthetics of Design

Making a loop on the end of your wire gives your glue something to hold onto.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! No one knows everything about everything, and my friend, Melanie Boshart, knows everything worth knowing about Floral Design AND is gracious enough to give wise advice.

SO, when asked for suggestions on flowers for a grand wedding bouquet, she advised to create different kinds of flowers with size, textures, and colors in mind, and so I aimed for many tiny, spider like posies, and worked up to spiky kusudama flowers and voluptuous roses in medium and large sizes. There are even a few shaggy-ish asters of various proportions.

I mixed and diluted alcohol inks dispensed from a mister to add slight nuances of color to blooms already assembled, and I knew that if I wanted certain colors, I could dry brush acrylic paint onto pages of text which could then be assembled into floral elements. This makes green leaves particularly easy.
